Everest Base Camp motorcycle tour

Tibet motorcycle tour – 13 days USD$ 3,999

Our new Tibet motorcycle tour gives you the easiest option to ride to Everest Base Camp. Fly into Lhasa with the Tibetan permit, we arrange for you and you’re set to ride off into the Himalayan Mountains.

If you fly from Kathmandu, Nepal, you will only need a China group visa to get to Lhasa, Tibet.The group on the China group permit will need to leave Tibet/ China together. If you plan to fly from Chengdu, China, to Lhasa, Tibet, we will need to get a Tibet travel permit for you in advance & send it to your hotel in Chengdu, China.

Itinerary for the Tibet motorcycle tour:

Day 1

Fly to Chendu, China (pick up Tibet travel permit) or fly to Kathmandu, Nepal.

Day 2

Fly to Lhasa, Tibet. Get used to the altitude and set up the bikes ready for riding.

Day 3

First day of riding, in Tibet, we will visit Potala Palace which was built in 1645 by Dalai Lama Lobsang Gyatso and is one of the most beautiful architectural buildings in the world. It is 400 meters, 350 meters and has 13th floors. There are 1,000 rooms.
We will also ride to the Jokhang Temple that was built for celebration of marriage of Songten Gambo (King of Tibet) with Princess Wencheng of Tang Dynasty.

Day 4

Lhasa to Gandan – 120 km

Today’s ride to the Ganden Monastery gets us to around 4.000 m / 13.120 ft. Ganden Monastery is the foundation place of the Gelupka “Yellow Hat Sect” of four main sects of Tibetan Buddhism. The Monastery is built high on the hill top overlooking valley. We loop back to Lhasa for evening meal and sleep.

Day 5

Lhasa to Shannan Prefecture – 180KM

We start off riding, following the Lhasa river and later on along the Yarlung (Brahmaputra) river. This beautiful ride takes us to Tsetang County. A fairly modern town but the Yarlung valley is the cradle of Kingdom and Tibetan Culture. We will visit the Yumbulakhang Palace just outside of Tsetang.

Day 6

Shannan – Gyangtse – 320KM

Leaving the Yarlung valley, we wind our way up the road to Gambala pass (4800m). There is a great view of Yumdrok Lake, the second largest lake in Tibet. We then climb up to Gambala mountain in the background of 7,111 meter Ninkin Kangsar Mountain. Onwards to Nagartse near the first snow-covered foothills of the Himalayas and over the 5,100 meter Karo La Pass to Gyangtse.

Day 7

Gyangtse – Sakya – 243KM

We ride today to the Gyangtse Dzong, the old fortress of the town. We also visit the Buddhist Pelkhor Monastery was built in 1427 which has a Nepalese influence and is known as “the monastery of the ten thousand paintings”. In the afternoon, we take small roads to Sakya, where the Sakya Monastery based. Sakyapa is one of anient Tibetan Buddhism sects.

Day 8

Sakya -Tingri – 140KM

If the weather is clear enough, we will get our first glimpses of Mount Everest. We visit the Sakya Monastery and ride up to Shegar. On the way down if we’re lucky we see Mount Everest in the distance.

Day 9

Dingri – Everest Base Camp – 135KM

We ride across Pang La then arrive at Rongbuk monastery, this will the thing you remember the most, to ride over the Himalayas to Everest base camp. We will have the view the 8,000 meter mountains on the pass. From Rongbuk Monastery, we can choose to take shuttle buses or hike to Everest Base Camp. At the base camp, we can enjoy the view and take breathtaking photos. In the afternoon, we return to Rongbuk for overnight at Rongbik guesthouse or tented guesthouse.

Day 10

Rongbuk – Shigatse – 360 km

Nice twisty roads all day long gets us back to Shigatse, where we take a break. On the way we enjoy the once more breathtaking scenery of Tibet from our motorbikes. We should be there by early afternoon and there will be some free time.

Day 11

Shigatse – Namtso Lake – 320 km

Today is a full days riding to Lake Namtso. This is the largest salt lake in Tibet. We spend a night in a tented guesthouse by the shore of the lake. If you still have some energy left, you may take a stroll around the Tashidor peninsula.

Day 12

Namtso Lake to Lhasa – 230 km

We return to Lhasa today, on different roads with fantastic panoramic views over Lhasa. We ride on quieter roads through the Lhundhrub valley with its farms and pastures. Upon arrive in Lhasa time to celebrate ride!

Day 13

After breakfast, we will transfer you and the group to Lhasa airport for departure (with great memories).

Does not include:

1. First night hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal or Chengdu, China
2. Alcohol
3. Flights to & from Lhasa, Tibet
