This Thailand motorcycle tour program includes 8 days of top class hotels, gourmet food and 7 days of the best possible riding available in Thailand.
We’ve done our best below to describe this decadent Thailand motorcycle tour offering. We hope we have been able to capture for you how marvelous it is.
Day 1 – Arrival in Chiang Mai, Thailand
On your arrival in Chiang Mai, Thailand, we will pick you up from the airport and take you to the Rim Resort, in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city. It’s a beautiful hotel we been using a frequently because of it’s impeccable service and beautiful setting. After you’re settled in, we will take you to dine at one of the best restaurants in Chiang Mai & discuss the mind blowing riding that is ahead of us in the days to come.
Day 2 – Chiang Mai to Nan
Departing Chiang Mai city, we get onto the gentle curves into Phayao Province which provides a nice warm-up to get used to the motorcycles on Thailand’s roads. From there, we land on some wonderful, windey roads, with panoramic ridge line passes, all the way to Nan. It’s an unbelievable first days riding out of a big city into rural farming areas, then into an unspoiled beautiful non-touristy town.
We will stay at the gorgeous Nan Boutique Hotel, probably the best hotel in Nan. There are several superb restaurants in Nan depending on your preference for Thai food or western food.
Day 3 – Nan to Chiang Rai
This is the day you will ride the legendary Route 1148. It’s so special in fact, that we sell 1000’s of t-shirts with R 1148 printed on them, after people have ridden this perfect, race track, road ( we’re not joking). All the roads we ride on day 2 are special and fun, but the 120km of R 1148, will stay in your mind for eternity. We end the day in the city of Chiang Rai and sleep in the Le Meridian Hotel, which is on the banks of the Mae Kok River, a great location. The hotel restaurants produce delicious food, there are several other gourmet options along the banks of the Mae Kok River.
Day 4 – Chiang Rai to Mae Sai
More great roads as we head out of the city and follow the magical Mekong River north to Chiang Khong (the gateway to Laos), Golden Triangle & onwards to Mae Sai, which is the border town & international border crossing with Myanmar. We will arrive early enough so that you can cross into Myanmar and sample the local flavor of the bustling markets if you wish. After returning from Myanmar, we end the day in the border town of Mae Sai at the Victory Hotel, with its refreshing large pool.
Day 5 – Mae Sai to Tha Ton
This is a very interesting days riding. Leaving Mae Sai, we hug the border with views into Myanmar for several hours. It’s a fascinating ride with several Army checkpoints, all of them very friendly. We then visit the deceased drug lord, Khun Sa’s old head quarters, where the huge wholesale opium operation was controlled from. From there, on to Doi Mae Salong for a delicious lunch, an ancient Chinese town mostly inhabited by descendants from the Chinese KMT rebel army. We end the day in the border town of Tha Ton which is on the other end of the Mae Kok River in the MaeKok River Resort, the most luxurious resort in Tha Ton.
Day 6 – Tha Ton to Mae Hong Son
A 400km riding day and today we ride on the infamous Mae Hong Son Loop to Mae Hong Son. The whole loop they say is 1,864 curves (do they count them all?), you haven’t ridden Thailand unless you’ve ridden the Mae Hong Son Loop. We will have lunch in the town of Pai, which has become a bustling all year round town. Arrival in Mae Hong Son, we dwell at the Imperial Hotel, the best hotel in Mae Hong Son. A rest and a shower and delicious food awaits us in town.
Day 7 – Mae Hong Son to Mae Sariang
Now headed south, on a beautiful, flowing section of the Mae Hong Son Loop, there’s a lot we will visit along the way before we get to the “Karen Tribal Town” of Mae Sariang. This might be my favorite region of Thailand because of how original everything still is. The local Karen tribe residents are from Myanmar decent and you can feel the difference in culture from other areas of Thailand. We end the day at the Mae Sariang Riverhouse Resort, with its new swimming pool to cool down in. Delectable local and western food is available close by in 2 different restaurants that we regularly use.
Day 8 – Mae Sariang to Chiang Mai
It’s no over yet bar far, even though it’s the last riding day of the tour. Today, we will ride some beautiful, beautiful roads to the highest point of Thailand, stopping at some unique waterfalls along the way. It doesn’t end there.
Tonight we stay at the most luxurious hotel in Chiang Mai, The Dhara Dhevi, a USD$ 600 a night mind blowing hotel. Amazing food, amazing rooms & amazing service, we think it’s the perfect last memory for one of the most luxurious motorcycles tours available in the world.
