As of 23rd December, 2016, most foreign vehicles (excluding ASEAN) entering Thailand are now required to be be supervised by a licensed Thai tour agency holding inbound and outbound tour licenses.

A foreign vehicle is allowed into Thailand for a maximum of 30 days in one period and a maximum of 60 days in any calendar year. The Thai tour company has to obtain an entry permit for you, at least 35 days in advance of your Thailand entry. The Thai tour company, then has to accompany you throughout your transit/ tour of Thailand (this isn’t as bad as it seems).
We offer a “bare bones” mandatory, Thai legal requirement for foreign solo vehicle/ group of vehicles, where a representative from our tour company will meet you at the international border crossing, assist with entry/ Thai temporary driving licenses (IDP 1968 issues). With a pre-planned, pre-determined itinerary, we will meet you at the end of day sleeping destination (every day), giving you as much freedom as we can legally. After many meetings, we think this is the best possible way for you to still enjoy Thailand.
We are responsible for you under our tour license, so there are some conditions:
1. The foreign registered vehicle MUST leave before the permit expiry date. We will require a fully refundable USD$ 500 guarantee deposit in case of vehicle failure/ accident and we have to get the vehicle to the border. No issues the money is returned on exit.
2. You must stick to the agreed itinerary. Failure to do so will forfeit your guarantee deposit.
